Before joining CMTI, Dr. Dutta was engaged as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Lovely Professional University, Jalandhar, Punjab, prior to which she worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad. Dr. Dutta has been engaged as Visiting Researcher in the ‘Neuroimaging and Neuro-informatics Laboratory’ at Kyushu University, Ito Campus, Fukuoka, Japan for a short-term research. Altogether, she has a research experience of 3.5 years and   teaching experience of 4 years from various organizations of repute.

  • B.Tech. in Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering from MAKAUT (formerly WBUT)
  • M.Tech. in Biomedical Engineering from National institute of Technology (NIT) Rourkela
  • PhD in Engineering from Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR), CSIR-Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute, Durgapur, West Bengal. (Thesis title: “Assessment of Grasp Ability of Stroke Survivors: a machine learning based approach”)

Dr. Dutta’s research interest revolves around the development of wearable technologies for healthcare applications. She has contributed immensely towards the future of at-home rehabilitation for stroke victims through the development of intelligent glove for automated grasp ability assessment. She was also engaged as a ‘visiting researcher’ at ‘Neuroimaging and Neuro-informatics Laboratory’ at Kyushu University, Ito Campus, Fukuoka, Japan, wherein, she explored the strategies for classification of stroke patients from EEG data and identification of stroke driven disability through EMG data. Dr. Dutta have developed and deployed various cattle health monitoring devices, namely, MOOnitor, MOOcare, and MOOpedo, in several industries and organized farms as a part of Government of India funded projects aiming towards the development of IoT-enabled solutions for continuous health monitoring and early detection of diseases in cattle.

As a senior research fellow at CSIR-CMERI, she was involved in the research on elbow joint angle estimation with surface electromyography. During her postdoctoral period at IIT Hyderabad, she worked towards the development of a low complex methodology for sEMG-based hand activity identification for rehabilitation and prosthetic applications and was also involved in the development of bio-signal driven soft actuator-based glove for at-home rehabilitation and functional assistance to patients suffering from hand disability. Recently, Dr. Dutta is involved in development of wearable sensors for AI and IoT assisted identification of respiratory diseases.
